Athletic Department Proactive in Handling EEE and WNV

With concern regarding Eastern Equine Encephalitis (“EEE”) and/or West Nile Virus (“WNV”) – both of which are mosquito born viruses that can be a serious health threat to the public particularly during dusk to dawn hours, The Braintree High School Athletic Department has decided that regular season outdoor night home contests for the Fall will be delayed until Friday, October 17th.

While taking into serious consideration the Braintree Board of Health’s recommendation to curtail outdoor recreational activities during peak mosquito hours from dusk to dawn in the summer and fall, The Braintree High School Athletic Department feels this decision is in the best interest for the safety and well-being of our student-athletes. Fall schedules can be found at www.highschoolsports.net

With the help of a grant from the Board of Health, a large supply of insect repellent spray bottles and wipes have been sent to Braintree High School and will be utilized by the Athletic Department to assist in precautionary measures against these mosquito born viruses. Additionally, it is strongly recommended that individuals should wear long sleeve pants and shirts, as well as use mosquito repellents when outdoors.
