Head Injuries and Student Athletes The DPH is partnering with a wide range of educational, medical, and student athletic organizations to build awareness on the impact of sports-related head injuries among student athletes. A key part of this effort is a new law requiring that schools which are members of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) must participate in a sports head injury and concussion awareness program beginning this school year. DPH has issued Updated Guidance and an FAQ on this new regulation for athletic directors, trainers, coaches, school nurses, physicians, superintendents and principals.
